Funerals and the Remembrance Garden

Pastoral Care

Our Pastor prefers to be involved with you in the process of death and grief as early as possible. It is especially helpful to you and to the Pastor when he can be involved prior to death, building a caring relationship with the dying and extending counsel to the family. You may call our Pastor, or simply call the church, to secure these services. Our Pastor will seek to serve you, within the limitation of availability.

When death has occurred, please call as soon as possible. It is preferable to speak with the Pastor prior to making arrangements with a funeral home. He will respond to your feelings, as well as to your questions and concerns. It can often be helpful to know the schedule of the church or the Pastor prior to making funeral arrangements. The Pastor will also be glad to accompany you to the funeral home, if that is your wish.

Funerals and Memorial Services

In general, funerals are services with the body present and memorial services are services without the body present. Services are encouraged to be held at the church, especially when the deceased and/or family have been close to the Christian faith and church. Local funeral homes are all well equipped and sensitive to your needs, as well as those of the church, and you are welcome to use any you choose. Services are always regarded as times of worship, and what is done will be determined with that in mind.

The Pastor in charge of the service will want to talk with those making the decisions in order to become familiar with personal details and plan the service. While pastors reserve the right to decide what is appropriate, please be forthright to state your thoughts and preferences about what might be planned. Services should be personal to the deceased and those present, yet speak a positive Christian message. They both recognize the grief of those present and give thanks for God's gifts in the one who has died. You are welcome to suggest scriptures or other readings, hymns, special music and persons to share brief personal memories or tributes. For services in the church, our Pastor will officiate and others may participate only at his invitation. Our Pastor will go to the cemetary for a graveside service, if desired.

Memorial Contributions

Memorial gifts to the church are welcome. Envelopes are available for your use at any time. Memorials can also be made to other benevolent agencies. It is best to inform the funeral director if you wish to name a memorial when you make arrangements, so that your desire can be printed in the death notices they prepare and distribute.

Lunches and Receptions

Arrangements for lunches and receptions at the church can be made with a catering service, or our Helping Hands Committee. Additional building and custodial fees will be charged when appropriate.

Memorial Garden

Memorial Gardens

Franklin Community Church is available for the interment of ashes. It is especially appropriate for a church memorial garden to be used in this way. Placing ashes into the church's garden or columbarium is a fitting symbol of the faith that we have in God's love.

Grief Counseling and Support

Our Pastor wants to be helpful through the time following the service, to lend counsel and support in grief. The professional services of the Samaritan Counseling Center are also available.

Franklin Community Church, along with our Pastors and staff, want to extend ourselves to you with caring and compassion at a time of death.

As Christians we believe that God loves and cares for all people, giving salvation and eternal life. Death is a time of life in which the faith we share is particularly important, and we are glad to make the ministry of the church available to you.
